NEROHouston (that's our live action role playing group) is holding an event this weekend (Feb 21-2). There are two Mardi Gras parties this weekend. NERO's next event is March 20-22. We test for the red belt in Tang Soo Do March 21.
We don't really want to miss two NERO events in a row -- that's like missing two episodes of an arc-based TV show (think of missing two eps of LOST!). But there's free food, and beer, and cheap plastic beads, and sleeping at home in bed, and live music, if we go to Mardi Gras.
Decisions, decisions.
I guess maybe we will miss the parties this year -- we have already seen two parades, and gotten some decent beads from them -- although we will be sad not to have the cameraderie and socializing.
The Southdowns parade is a small neighborhood event, although it's getting more sophisticated. The floats are still clearly homemade, but this year they had theme cups. This dragon is clearly having a good time.
This is like a mini-spring break -- I have to go in to teach one day next week, like a week from the last day I had to teach. Geaux Louisiana.
some announcer on the radio said that Tool is coming here to BR at the end of March. wakka!
Friday is the Southdowns parade. JPW always hosts a shindig with a big pot o' gumbo. Saturday is the Spanishtown parade. RW is barbecuing a pig again this year (cochon de lait in the local vernacular; I still say cookout). Mardi Gras season is worse than Christmas for parties and snacking and losing track of what you're (I'm) eating and drinking. Not that I'd change it at all.
