exhibitions and culture
Last weekend was the end of the semester, so we went out and did stuff. It was lovely, but there was a stiff cool breeze the whole time. On Saturday (I wish my real camera worked, I'm not sure the cellphone pics turned out very well, and I don't have my cable with me) we visited the HMS Bounty reproduction (built for the 1960 MGM movie), which was in port on the Mississippi River. Afterward, we went to Tsunami for sushi lunch.
Sunday was the last day of the Louisiana Renaissance Fair in Hammond, so we went over early to make sure we could get home in time for D&D. I didn't take as many pictures there as I have in the past, again, because the cellphone cam just isn't up to the job. We finally got to see the Birds of Prey demonstration, which was a lot more thrilling than the jousting that we saw a few years ago. The falconer woman walked out to the middle of the audience (about 10 feet from our seats) and called her owl. The owl came right to her -- flying about head level! Likewise the hawks and falcons, when demonstrating how they hunt, came in surprising low over our heads.
We found a bo staff (I think this is the right outfit), suitable for fighting for someone of K's height, but the vendor didn't have anything smaller for my size. I should have made K get it anyway, but we can (should) probably order some through our tang soo do master.
Now I'm in the thick of exams, which is good, because in the recent past our exams have been late in the week, which makes for rushed grading. They are forecasting a chance of SNOW here tomorrow morning. I'm glad I don't have anything that's going to force me to leave the house, if it really happens. Not that it would last beyond breakfast anyway. :)
